Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS)

LUMS aims to provide equal academic opportunities to people of all social walks across Pakistan In order to fully harness the potential of the human resources of the country, LUMS has been trying to provide a broader access to its programmes across Pakistan. A new initiative - the "National Outreach Program" was launched in 2001, with the objective of providing educational opportunities to bright & talented students from smaller cities, villages and inner city areas of large urban centres, who are unable to meet the programme's regular fee requirement.

LUMS with specifying and developing a new, more comprehensive surveillance system for the university, the request followed a number of petty criminal incidents in parking lots which went undetected due to the inadequate analog-based CCTV system in place at the time.

LUMS management worked with Astaa Technologies, an Axis Gold Solution Partner specializing in Network Video Solution for Schools and Colleges, to install 75 Axis Network Cameras using their Existing Network.  LUMS now has a pure IP-Surveillance system which provides the coverage of most sensitive areas of the university and offers a platform flexible enough to take advantage of new technology developments such as the MJPEG and MPEG-4 compression standard, megapixel cameras and intelligent analytics capabilities Motion detection especially in the dark and facial recognition. This IP-based solution is being maintained by the college’s own IT department.
